OpenVPN Config file – How to understand it

Each VPN provider will provide you with a config file.  If you open this config using Notepad, then it will read something like this.

VPNBook- UDP Port 53 Client config file

- Client (You’re the client, not the server, so we’re off to a good start).
- Protocol = UDP  (UDP is faster than TCP, so this is the fastest form of VPN).
- Remote = VPNBook server – the port we connect on is Port 53

-Resolve & retry = infinite = keep trying

-MTU = maximum transmission unit.  Consider packets stacked like suitcases in an airplane.  Each suitcase has a maximum weight and size.  This MTU confirms the maximum weight of each suitcase allowed – to fly with British Airways OpenVPN.

-Persist = keep trying
-CA = Certificate authority.  The .CRT file is their certificate.
-auth-user-pass = look for a password file (called password.txt)
-verb = verbose level.  How “chatty” the error messages are.
- cipher = AES 256

So when you download the UDP Port 53 config file from VPNBook, that’s what the file is saying to your computer.

Eg if the error says TLS keys – that means the SSL key exchange has not happened in the time allowed – this would close the session.  The keys are needed to encrypt your message.  If it fails, OpenVPN won’t allow you to connect, as it’s unsafe.

Now we install the Certificate to connect to VPNBook on Port 53 (Needs Winzip)

1) Now we download the Certificate for UDP Port 53 access.

• Go to www.vpnbook.com
• OpenVPN Tab.
• UDP 53 Certificate.

2) Download OpenVPN certificate (Marked UDP Port 53) and unzip it

3) Unzip the certificate file – it has 2 files inside.  Both are critical.  Extract the files to c:\ProgramFiles\OpenVPN\config or copy them to this directory.

4) If you don’t know how to use Winzip, don’t worry, we can use cut and paste instead.  We can use Windows Explorer – Copy the 2 files, Navigate to “c:\program files\OpenVPN\config” and paste the two configuration files you just downloaded into this directory.
(vpnbook.crt  is a security certificate and vpnbook-udp53.opvn is the config file).

Now we’re ready to connect to OpenVPN.

5) Right click on the OpenVPN icon in the system tray (lower right hand corner of your screen), and select “Connect” from the menu.

6) Enter your VPNBook user name and password into OpenVPN (these are obtained from http://www.vpnbook.com).

• Username: freeopenvpn

• Password: J8hfCiu6W

• Click “OK“

7) Connected log appears – Congratulations… you are now running a VPN using Port 53.

As OpenVPN is connecting the log will fill with information. This is normal. Once completed you will be connected to your new VPN!

Select “Disconnect” when you are ready to end your session – but lets test that you are running a Romanian IP first.

To submit your blog to the Search Engines..
After completing your blog and postings you have to submit your blog to the major Search Engines. This is because there are millions of sites out there on the world wide web and the search bots/spiders will not come to your site/blog unless you inform them that a site has been constructed and needs viewers.

There are millions of sites on the web and viewers nowadays have to rely on the search engines to inform them of the best site for the subject they are looking for. Unless you submit your site to the search engines they will never come to know of your site/blog.

TO REMOVE YOUR SITE OR PART OF IT FROM GOOGLE INDEX GO TO Removing my content from the Google index.

After submission the search engines send their spiders to crawl over and index your site and putit in their cache. These 'spiders' are automated programs which periodically visit your site to see if you have made any changes to it.

One advantage of hosting your site on the Blogger platform is that Google's spiders periodically visit your site. To add your site to Google head over to :

http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps

and sign in with your Google Account. Copy and paste the URL of your site/blog into the text box at the top for "Add Site" and click OK. Google adds the site and the next page opens on which click "Verify your Site". On the next page clickdown arrow besides "Choose Verification Method". Here select " Add a Meta Tag" and a metatag is generated for you. Copy and paste this metatag into your template just below the <title> </title> tags. This part ofthe template is the second part outlined in Parts of Template. Save the template. Also add this Metatag :

<meta name="robots" content="INDEX, FOLLOW">

This is so that when Googlebot visits your page it will index it and follow all the links within it.

To prevent Google from indexing add NOINDEX NOFOLLOW instead.

Now Go back to Google Sitemaps page and click on Verify button. Now click on "My Sites" link at the very top of the page under "Google Webmaster Tools". A page opens up to show a list of all the sites you have submitted to Google. Click on "Add a Sitemap" on the same line as your blog/site. The 'Add Sitemap' Page opens up and click down arrow next to "Choose Type" and select "Add General Web Sitemap". In the third line text box under 'My Sitemap url is' paste the feed url of your blog which is :

http://MYBLOGNAME.blogspot.com/rss.xml

Instead of 'MYBLOGNAME' type in name of your blog. Click on Add Web Sitemap Button.
This completes the process of adding the sitemap of your blog to Google. There is no need to upload any sitemap file to blogger or to your blog.
